Each year during President’s Day weekend the Queen Mary’s ScotsFestival & International Highland Games XXI is held in Long Beach, California. This year, the festival will be held February 15th & 16th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Highlights of the Scottish Festival include the Grand Parade of Clans, bagpipe and drum competitions, Highland Games, dance exhibitions, musical performances, vendor booths and whisky tastings.
We have attended the Scottish Festival several times over the years but this is the first time that we actually planned to stay the weekend on the Queen Mary so that we can enjoy all of the festivities throughout the weekend.
Did you know that eighty-three years ago, in a small seaside town in Scotland called Clydebank, construction began on the Queen Mary? This is why even today the Queen Mary celebrates their Scottish heritage with a two-day festival.
There will be traditional games and competitions of Scotland performed throughout the weekend. Come out to watch spirited competition in athletics, dancing, piping and darts.
One of my favorite parts of the Scottish Festival is browsing through the clan booths and learning more about the Scottish heritage. I also enjoy watching the dance competitions.
